0 for 4

I know 4 people with birthdays in the Feb. 20-Feb. 25 date range. This year, I attempted to make cards for at least a couple of these people.

Today is the 26th. Sadly, neither card made it to completion. While the card on the left may look complete, there is still more to be done. I will finish these at some point. My sister's birthday in March? Maybe.

Projects completed to date: Zero

I did manage to build a skeleton model of a stegosaurus, but the past crafts posted are still waiting for activity.

I felt I should post before this drops to the bottom of my blog list (which is around 10 now).

Clubhouse DVD

We shot footage at the last Halloween party. I have yet to review this footage, let alone edit it.

Here are some empty DVD cases that represent the digital flunk out of my editing.

Yup, this speaks for itself. A neat project book. Never opened. Free to a good home.

So I was off by 10...

"What are you making?"
"It's going to be a bedspread."
"What?!  You're going to be working on that until doomsday."
"No way!  I'll have in done in a year, year and a half."
"Haha, yeah right!"
"You'll see!"

Ten plus years later, and still just 6 panels completed.  Probably one of my most ambitious crochet/knit/anything projects to date...and also my greatest failure.

Doilies, anyone?

This One Goes Out to the One I Love

All failed projects start with great intentions. This is one of them (or rather, two). I wanted to make giant wall hanging, magnetic Scrabble canvases. And in some crazy world, I'm not too far off. The canvases are painted with magnetic paint and then topped with acrylic paint. One got so far as to have an actual grid design on it. I kind of got frustrated because my measurements seemed to be a bit off (that's what happens when you use a classroom yard stick for minute measurements).

And what Scrabble board would be effective without tiles. Unsanded, unmarked, bowl of tiles.

Someday, I'll get around to sanding these each by hand. And then lettering them. And then putting rare earth magnets into them. And finish those canvases off. And then I'll have super sweet gifts for a couple people.

The Most Glaring

This is one project that I completed exactly 75% of. The fact that I can give a percentage is telling of how simple it is to complete, but I'm way too pathetic to have it done. I have an excuse, though. A really good excuse.

I had four photo frames lining my hallway into my living room. The first frame (shown right) was meant to be "current friends"; that's not to say the pictures are current (many go back a few years), but they are at least within my time range of "current". A lot of these pictures were given to me online and printed over at Future Shop at a very hefty fee. Some of these pictures had never been printed and had sat on disc since the day they were taken (some were still on my camera!). I'm proud to say that I got quite a bit done here. Printed, trimmed & framed.

Here's the second picture frame. Also filled and completed. Most of these pictures had me over at my parents' house using their scanner and their old photos to get some of our more "classic" prints as children. This was the "family" album. On one hand, it's incomplete in that it only really shows my dad's side of the family, as my mom's side is ridiculously large and spread out. They'd need two frames unto themselves. This was another frame set that used the Future Shop print shop. I really felt discouraged as it almost cost $100 for about 60 prints. I did get them a size up and high gloss, so I didn't exactly scrimp, which if I really wanted to, I could. This is the frame I have the most pride for, as I can show it off to my family when they come over.

And finally, the third completed frame. Loaded up with classic Clubhouse shots like Halloween 1999 and early trips to Seattle to visit the newly divorced Christian. Even more classic shots of my high school friends, as I was quite lucky to have camera happy friends. I'm positive the kids these days with digital cameras are getting way more memories (and way more embarrassing shots!), although, I can't imagine that they store them in any particularly lasting way. All mine were the original prints, but I also have the negatives if I need to make more copies. I'm doubting that is the case. So, here's "classic friends": frame #3.

And last, and very least is the source of "interruption". Frame number four is filled with fake people and covered in cellophane wrap. Originally, I was going to fill it with pictures of Grae's family and when he was younger, but as a product of divorced parents and a mixed family, when we did get down to going through his pictures, there were huge gaps. Almost every single picture was an unflattering shot of him in neon clothes during his awkward pre-teen/early teen phase. Hardly something we'd want to promote to all our guests. However, now that Grae and I are in the production of our own family, I can only imagine that this will be filled with "grandparent" shots over the coming years. I hope to have this done by this time next year, but...

heffalump

A couple years ago, I decided to start working on another stuffed heffalump for my mom.

1-2 years later, it looks something like this:

I just can't seem to get motivated to finish it. Everytime her birthday, Mother's Day, or xmas rolls around, I pick it up again, but can never seem to invest enough interest/time into it to have it completed in time. Of course, once the occasion has passed, the poor half-stuffed creature gets returned to the 'yarn trunk'. Well, it's almost her birthday again...do I dare pull it out?

Sadly, this heffalump represents not one, but two unfinished projects.  It is made with the yarn from another unfinished project of mine--a crocheted sweater I pulled from a Vogue crochet book.

So it's off to a slow start...

I have been toying with the idea of starting a new blog for awhile now. For the past year or so, I have been keeping up with as many craft blogs as possible—it’s almost an obsession. As much as I would love to start a craft blog of my own, I have come to the realization that having a blog dedicated to one’s crafts requires both the start AND completion of many projects—something I clearly can’t commit to. I have many ideas, and many started projects, but there never seems to be quite enough drive to follow through. Always distractions, always procrastination, always too excited to move onto the next project. I am so in awe of those who post cool crafty things daily. If my only job was to create and post crafty things, maybe I would get it done…but I still have my doubts.

So, in discussing this trend with Corinne, it was decided we would start up a blog dedicated to the many unfinished projects.

(The awesome thing is that as excited as I was to start on this blog, my first unfinished project post has been in “draft” mode for the last week. I rock!)
